Purified Terephtalic Acid (PTA):
PTA is an important organic raw material, widely used in the chemical fibre industry, the light industry, the electronics industry and the construction industry and some other fields. Over 90 percent of the world’s PTA is used to produce PET. About 75% of PTA produced is used to make polyester fibre in textile industry, 20% to make bottle-grade polyester mainly used in packing & beverages and 5% to make film-grade polyester, with the associated products used as packaging material, films and magnetic tapes.
- Polyester fibers based on PTA provides easy fabric care, both alone and in blends with natural and other synthetic fibers. Polyester films are used widely in audio video recording tapes, data storage tapes, photographic films, labels and other sheet material requiring both dimensional stability and toughness.
- PTA derivitives, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) has become the primary container resin for application such as carbonated beverage bottles, while other polyterephthalate provide dimensional stability, good heat resistance and durability for engineering applications.
- PTA is an important raw material for low molecular weight saturated polyesters for powder and water soluble coatings.
